“Urban Framework, Delivery Paradiso”

A conceptual project aims to enrich the urban village space in Shenzhen with the collaboration of Guo Qiu and Hongyi Hu.

Delivery Paradiso is a reflection on the relationship between space, identity, comfort and psychological well-being. Inspired by the site, we decided to embody for our project the perspective of delivery drivers, which are often constricted to rest on their own vehicles or in very small spaces. Moreover, in urban villages they sometimes cannot enter by scooter, like in most cases in Shangmeilin, instead they have to walk in and given the villages urban texture (being composed by “hand shake buildings”) they often waste time to reach their destination. Moreover, delivery drivers might also face challenges in terms of identity, which can strongly affect their mental health and psychological well-being.

Through a spatial intervention, our new Urban Frame is intended to utilize recycled materials to build a frame where different modules can be plugged-in and can serve as seating, tables accessories, and many other different spatial interactive device that can provide more space not only for drivers but for all the village residents, This new concept of public space, through materials and participatory construction, can reinvigorate the public realm of urban village, which often lacks, and simultaneously can encourage social interaction, enhance identity for the drivers by visual communication design responses, and provide more space in an urban condition that is not able to provide with enough space for resting, relaxing, chatting, interacting. This device serves as actuator of interaction between humans and the environment at the same time.
